What do you believe is the greatest challenge most athletes are facing today?
- This may not be the biggest challenge but at least in high school, balancing schoolwork while playing sports is difficult. We could have 3 tests on the same day as a state championship or an important game and we just have to find a way to balance both.
How do you manage your athletic responsibilities and other outside recreational activities?
- I’m not perfect when it comes to managing responsibilities - I may miss a practice occasionally. I always prioritize school over athletics but basketball is a motivator to get my work done.
What is the best piece of advice you’ve gained from your coaches?
- The best advice I’ve gained from our coach is “Don’t sell yourself short.” It’s basic but confidence sometimes becomes more valuable than skill. You can work harder than Kobe but if you don’t believe in yourself, that work won’t change anything. The fake it till you make it attitude isn’t totally untrue.
Anything you would like to add?
- My team is the most incredible group of people I’ve ever met. We play ball but we also decorate cookies and do calligraphy together. We just have fun and that’s what makes us successful on the court.
